Major Daddy!

Side note: I'm playing catch-up from my lazy summer of no blogging, so I will be posting important events that happened as I get time.  I want to be sure certain things make it on here for the time when I finally print this blog into a book.

Earlier this summer Andy was promoted to major! If you remember, last year we got word that he was a Major-Select. Then we just had to wait for it to be time for his number to come up for his actual promotion.   Finally, after a much longer wait than normal due to government cutbacks, he was able to pin on the brown oak leaves.  Wahoo!!

We are proud of him and had a fun time celebrating his accomplishments!  His mom made the trip out for the ceremony and we are so happy she was here!  We also had many friends from church come out to support us, which meant so much.  There was definitely lots to celebrate!

The kids and I got to do the actual "pinning on", which actually involves us pulling off his captain rank that was scotched taped over his new major rank.  Very high tech :)   Olivia was scared of the crowd, but she stayed up front with us, which is all we asked for.  Andy's boss at the time (the Ops Group Commander) had some very nice things to say and then Andy spoke a bit.  I was a proud wife; still am, actually.

Olivia is still disappointed that her Daddy's new "flowers" aren't pink, but I know Andy is glad they are brown!  Congratulations, Andy.  I am blessed to have you as a husband and partner in life, and have nothing but pride when I think of your accomplishments.  Next step.....Lt. Col ;)

Rodeo time!

The rodeo comes to Altus each August and we've gone every year we've lived here. It's enjoyable and a fun way to fill up an evening in a town where there is really nothing else to do. :). Olivia loves the horses, and Carter was intrigued with the long horn cattle this year. Actually, this was probably his first time at the rodeo because I think my mom was here and kept him home last year. Anyhow, enjoy a sneak into our family outing at the good ol' rodeo!

soccer star.

Olivia is playing soccer this Fall on a team with other 4 and 5 year olds. We are surprised with how much she really loves going to practices.

Last Saturday was her first game and it was fun to watch! They play 3 on 3 on 2 fields at once (right next to each other), so each child plays majority of the game. It's a bit of a free-for-all, but the kids had smiles on their faces so I guess it is fun!

Olivia had a pretty good time and seemed to know where the ball was about 60% of the time. Ha. The changing point came when she kicked the ball from mid-field towards the goal. She had the advantage and kicked it another time or two and scored a goal! The crowd cheered loudly and her teammates came up to give her high fives. She turned away, looked at us, and ran to our arms crying! I was unable to get her back on the field; luckily, the game was nearly over. Any attention is bad in her mind most of the time! She may be the only 4 year old around who loved soccer UNTIL she scored a goal! "Everyone was looking at me and clapping so loud," she said.

After the game we went to Subway and celebrated with her friend Max.

poor, poor blog...

Apparently no one updates our blog for us when I am too busy, lazy, or forgetful! Oh, the horror! Therefore, nearly two months have gone by since y'all have heard anything from this undisclosed location in southwest Oklahoma (haha....that joke my military friends will get;)

I have a lengthy list of terrible excuses for why I haven't blogged the past few months, but I also have two pretty good ones.

Let me present good excuse #1....

Next, I present good excuse #2......

 

Or sometimes these two present as a single threat. Siblings united to keep mommy from all things productive and adult-related.....

They are cute and funny, yet unrelenting. Sometimes I go to bed thinking "Phew...what have I even accomplished today?!?!!" On those days my head may tell me I haven't done much of anything, but my heart tells a very different story.

Science experiment.

Olivia said she wanted to be a scientist the other morning, so we discussed digestion and made a replica of our stomachs!

When does school start again?!? Mama needs a break from this girl and her curious mind :) haha.
